Deanna Rose

Jake and I wanted to do something fun for Naomi this week so after lots of deliberation we decided to head out to Deanna Rose Farmstead in Olathe. We weren't sure if she would be old enough to enjoy any of it but since she likes it outside so much and it was free it was worth a try.

It turned out that she was old enough to enjoys a few of the activities. After a few worried glances she decided she liked the calves. This one even licked her finger.

She did not, however, like the mama cow. She really didn't even want to look at her.

Naomi's favorite attraction was these tiny baby goats. You could buy bottles of milk to feed them. Naomi started out doing real well.

But then these two bully goats came and wanted a drink and it quickly got a little too rough for her tastes. You know how goats can be...
She headed out away from the crowd where she found this gentle little guy to befriend. You can tell she's still on the lookout for those bully goats.

Naomi was interested in the geese but they were not interested in her.

I hate to confess this on such a public forum but here it is...I'm scared of goats. I know, they present themselves as harmless but they are so big and pushy. I hate them. When I was younger, maybe 10 or 12, I was facing my fear and feeding a goat when he sneezed. It scared me into tears and I've hated goats ever since. See, look how mean this goat is. Jake gives him a little food to show Naomi how to do it and then...

before you know it, BAM!, he's jumped up on the fence and practically bit off Naomi's hand.
Yeah, Naomi didn't want to feed the goat anymore (though he didn't really bite her) so Jake gave him the rest.

I decided to be lazy and not carry my camera around for the rest of the weekend but we still had lots going on! James, Brianna, and Kris were in town so we got to spend lots of time visiting with them. I was surprised how quickly Naomi took to her Uncle James. She is sometimes standoffish these days but she befriended James right away.
We also had a fun girlie baby shower for Heather and a birthday party for Naomi's friend Bo. The birthday party was at the park which Naomi loved. She had so much fun playing and eating and playing some more. And she even got a little goodie bag to take home. It was a great time. You can check out Bo's party here if your interested.

  1. That looked like so much fun! I want to go see those baby goats! I like goats, but I agree that the big ones with the big o' rolling eyes are a little scary. I love that it's free!

  4. How fun! We'll definitely have to go there this year! Although, we have goats and cows just walking around our streets, so maybe the kids won't be so impressed? :) that pic of the goat about to swallow Naomi's hand is crazy!
