The zoo remix

We wanted to take a break and have a fun family weekend sometime before the cold weather and holidays were upon us and as last weekend drew neigh and we didn't have any plans we just decided spur of the moment to head to Omaha and use our zoo season passes again. Naomi loved it all over again as if she had never been and, this time, Leah loved it too.

Naomi has been making this scrunched up smiley face lately when asked to "smile for the picture"

Here's Naomi and Jake taking the skylift across the zoo. I love Naomi's little hanging feet compared to Jake's long ones. While they did that, Leah got a chance to get out and walk a while in the aquarium. She loved chasing the fish.

The gorillas and bears were especially active this trip so that was fun. Leah was really into seeing the animals too so that made it double the fun. This gorilla seemed really into Leah which was cute (and slightly disturbing). She sat and looked and Leah for a long time and then watched us as we walked away. I was almost sad for it. Ok, I was sad for it. I really need a break from these pregnancy hormones.

On the second day we all went on the skylift across the zoo. I was a nervous wreak with Leah and Naomi on there and somehow Jake was cool as a cucumber and snapping pictures left and right. It really was neat if you can get past the idea of your baby falling right into the rhino pen. We went right over the giraffes, the coy pond, and the rhinos. It took us by reeeeeally close to the rhinos, especially. This is not a zoomed in picture. If this rhino would have stood up on his back legs we would have been skewers.

The goats were Leah's favorite attraction. She toddled from one to the other giving them pats on the back (or whatever body part was within reach) for the longest time. Naomi's favorite attraction this time was the butterfly garden.

As a side note:
1. Leah has become seriously attached to this bottle I am not looking forward to taking it away. It's crazy that only 7 or 8 months ago she absolutely refused all bottles.
2. Since Leah will not have enough hair to hold a bow for easily another year, I bought her some bigger headbands so she doesn't have to go bowless until then. The baby ones have been too tight for a while now and she needs something to identify her as a female (apparently being dressed in pink is not a big enough clue for the average walmart shopper).

While we were there we went to CocoKeys indoor water park. It was super fun for about 10 minutes and then a storm blew in and they closed because of lightning. Luckily, Naomi doesn't have much of a concept of time yet so when we said swimming time was over she was mostly fine with it. We will defiantly go back (probably to the Kansas City one). The water was nice and warm and the little kids area was perfect for our girls.

It is time for us to get geared up now for Leah's birthday. I can't believe she turns 1 this week!
