My goodness what a week it has been. This time last week I had gone in for my routine OBGYN appointment and found out that Eve had flipped in my stomach sometime in the week and was laying feet down. I can't even tell you how disappointed I was. We scheduled an appointment at the birth center for the doctors to try and turn her head down for Wednesday but it turned out that was unnecessary because on Tuesday evening my water broke.
For some reason that I don't know I have always wondered what it would be like to have my water break at home. Let me tell you it was no where near as cool as I thought it would be. It was such a mess running around trying to get the last minute packing done while trying to hold a bath towel between my legs. My sister Becky was the first to arrive on scene to watch the kids while a very nervous Jake and I headed to the hospital.
Three hours later we had this perfect girl in our hands. They said in the c-section that she had the chord wrapped around her neck three times and that if we had tried to turn her while still inside it wouldn't have worked and could have even sent her into distress and required an emergency c-section.
My parents and Becky kept the kids at the hospital until 10:30 so they could be the first ones to meet their little sister. Naomi was very excited and full of question after question. Leah was interested but mostly quiet. Silas just looked. The poor guy was quite unsure of the whole situation.
We named her Eve Suzanne Manthe after Jake's Grandma who is so near and dear to our hearts. Her little 7 pound 13 ounce frame seems to be very strong for her size and her 21 inch long body is almost too long for all these sweet newborn sized clothes I have. One thing is for sure this girl will never lack for company. She had visitors galore at the hospital and tons of attention since then.
This picture cracks me up beaches it shows how uninterested Silas really is. How typical too, the girls are fawning over the baby and Silas is on the phone.
We were all set to head home on Friday when the pediatrician came in and said Eve's bilirubin was too high and she had to stay for the evening on the "bili-bed." She was such a trooper though and slept quietly on it most of the time. Even the nurses couldn't believe how calm she was. Thankfully, by Saturday we got the green light to go home. Don't get me wrong, I love the hospital birth experience. They really make it great. But nothing beats home sweet home.
I love this sweet girl already!!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you all. Sounds like an exciting few days. Once your up and around, maybe I can meet Eve. Miss you! Jessica Asbury
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I was excited to hear the story and see all of the pics! I feel like the descriptions of your kids reactions were the exact same as our (corresponding-aged) kids were when Caleb was born. :) We all can't wait to meet her!
